Shinners was a member of River Church, part of the Evangelical Alliance which takes a very firm homophobic view regarding members of the LGBT community. When questioned about this he claimed to have no affiliation with River Church, however two of the leaders of the Church were trustees of shinners charity and both the head of the Church Rob McFarlane and his daughter Jessica can be seen working and posing for photographs in Shinners Cafe...
